Starting a “Fitness” journey.

The first thing to think about when you decide to live a healthier life is WHY? A lot of people start fad diets, or do a ton of cardio only looking to LOOK better. It’s easy to fall into the trap that is body image. With social media nowadays we all see these people with the perfect body, big booties, lean abs, everything that we want and don’t have. But living a healthy and happy life is different for everybody and it doesn’t always mean having a perfect body. In fact, it usually DOESN’T mean having a perfect body, it should mean getting the most out of your own life, and doing what you love.

The endorphin rush you get when you hike a mountain, or have a great workout, the feeling you have when you accomplished something, and gained strength mentally. When you grow to the point where you don’t have to look at a scale, you can just be content in yourself, that’s when you can really notice progress, and other people will notice that too. Whether you lost 0 pounds or 10, people will still be able to notice a difference in you, and most importantly you will notice that difference in yourself.

So before you decide to change your life, really dig deep and understand why you are doing it. Are you doing it to improve your life, or are you doing it to please others, to get attention. The only person that matters in this journey is you, so create the life you want, not the life you think you should have. Don’t do a bunch of cardio if you hate cardio, don’t eat kale if you hate kale. Make small changes or drastic ones, but before you do anything make sure your priorities are right, or you are bound to fail. Living a healthier life is a long, slow process, it comes over time and there are definitely going to be times when you skip a workout, or eat a cheeseburger, but it doesn’t matter because as long as you continue looking for happiness in being healthy, you will always come back to it.

It’s an amazing feeling to be happy in your own skin, to make progress both mentally and physically and to work past your insecurities and doubts and just say SCREW IT. So good luck and I hope everyone stays motivated and looks forward to the future.
